Prof. G.S. Bajpai made a presentation before the Joint Parliamentary Committee on three significant Bills on 7 January 2026

Professor G.S. Bajpai, Vice-Chancellor, National Law University Delhi, was invited to make a presentation before the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) on the provisos of three significant legislative Bills:

  • The Constitution (One Hundred and Thirtieth Amendment) Bill, 2025
  • The Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, 2025
  • The Government of Union Territories (Amendment) Bill, 2025

During his presentation, Prof. Bajpai discussed and presented his views on key constitutional and governance implications arising from the proposed amendments.

The Government of India constituted the Joint Parliamentary Committee to examine the above Bills. The Committee comprises 31 Members (21 Lok Sabha Members and 10 Rajya Sabha Members) and is chaired by Ms. Aparajita Sarangi, Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha).

The three Bills, introduced on the last day of the Monsoon Session on 20 August 2025, seek automatic removal of the Prime Minister, Chief Ministers, and Ministers if they are detained for thirty days on serious charges.
